Indie Studios is a creative community of visual storytellers who utilize our talents in the fields of cinematography, photography and fine art as diplomatic tools for building empathy on human rights and inspiring positive change.
Founded by husband and wife duo, Andrew Tyler White and Sam Bates, their work together is centered on the human experience and, specifically, the human form as a symbol of hope.
Indie Studios explores notions of identity, acceptance, expression, and equality through a dedicated studio practice of documenting the raw individuality of our subjects to create moving imagery that is both elevated and approachable.
Indie Studios interprets difficult themes, including the environmental crisis, sexual assault and women's rights, in a warm and relatable style, weaving in light, color and movement as signifiers of optimism, to provide subjects and viewers the space they need to process their emotions and grow from their shared experiences.
Through a desire to build a safe space in which to foster community, creativity and ingenuity, Indie Studios has become so much more than a production company. We are a harbor for creatives to accept themselves as they are, and become leaders to others.

Indie Studios in an art collective of Directors, Art Directors, Photographers and cinematographers based in New York City who have a a background in fashion, fine art and studio portraiture. Founded by Andrew T. White and Sam Bates in 2018.
Sam Bates
Sam grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio and attended the University of Cincinnati College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning where she studdied painting. After leaving college she worked as an editorial fashion stylist until 2020 when she transitioned into visual arts.
Andrew White
Andrew grew up in Washington DC, and obtained his BFA in Photography and Imaging from New York Univeristy's Tisch School of the Arts. He has been working as a photographer, cinematographer and visual artist in New York City for over ten years

At Indie Studios, it is our mission to make art that promotes the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals. We work with our clients and collaborators to ensure our production process incorporates as many aspects of the UNSDG as possible. We build our studio sets in-house. We use reclaimed materials from our past projects as well as the materials from the past projects of our friends, neighbors and collaborators. The Indie Studios Wardrobe department styles each project with garments and accessories pulled from our collection of archival second-hand and vintage pieces. Our wardrobe department then customizes the edited wardrobe to fit each project. Although we save and reuse as much as we can, the Indie Studios team is not perfect. We are and always will continue to learn, we do still produce more waste than we want to and more waste than we should. We are always searching for ways to improve.
